A close‑range distress flare for day or night signalling

A close‑range distress flare for day or night signalling

The Pains Wessex Red Hand Flare Mk8 is a compact, short‑range distress signal designed to mark your precise position in both daylight and darkness. It produces a bright red flame for 60 seconds at an intensity of 15,000 candela. A distinctive telescopic handle keeps the unit small when stowed—ideal for liferafts—while still extending easily for safe operation. Activation is via a simple pull‑wire ignitor.

How It’s Used

Extend the telescopic handle, hold the flare firmly, point it downwind at arm’s length, and pull the top‑mounted ignitor. The flare ignites immediately, producing a vivid red light suitable for close‑quarters location marking.
